🇱🇧THE SYSTEMATIC DISMANTLING OF LEBANESE SOVEREIGNTY
Lebanon faces a calculated assault on its sovereignty, disguised as diplomacy. Since November 27, 364 Israeli cease-fire violations have been documented, including home demolitions, arson, and unauthorized operations.
ECONOMIC WARFARE
🔘 12.8% economic contraction ($2.305 billion loss)
🔘 $10.7 billion in infrastructure damage
🔘 124,000 displaced
🔘 Up to 1.5 million requiring food aid through January 2025
GEOPOLITICAL PRESSURE
As Lebanon struggles to elect a president by January 26, the power vacuum worsens:
🔘 US surveillance aircraft monitor Lebanon’s northern coast and border with Syria.
🔘 #Syria now bans Lebanese citizens without residency documents, retaliating for Lebanon’s entry policies.
MILITARY ESCALATION
Tensions with Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) militants on the Syrian border have intensified:
🔘 Clashes in Ma’arboun injured Lebanese soldiers after militants tried to reopen blocked illegal crossings.
🔘 HTS reinforcements moved to border areas, openly provoking Lebanon’s army in videos.
🔘 While the south faces ongoing Israeli aggression, the border crisis diverts critical army resources.
THE HUMAN COST
🔘 44% of the population now lives in poverty.
🔘 Refugees face arbitrary detention and deportation.
🔘 Essential services like electricity remain virtually non-existent.
Lebanon’s political elite remains detacheds. Meanwhile, external actors exploit Lebanon’s vulnerability, orchestrating economic, military, and political attacks.
This coordinated assault is fragmenting #Lebanon while shielding aggressors like #Israel and #Turkey (#HTS). Sovereignty hangs by a thread, but Lebanon’s resilience has always defied impossible odds. Let’s hope the situation improves, but am not seeing any positive solid indicators.
