It was easier to hide when it was mainly happening in "deplorables" in US "flyover country", circa 2002-2014 (left map, US OD deaths per capita 2014; right, 2014)...
...but now it is happening in our crown jewel cities, where everyone in the world can see it...
Foreign investor this week: "Both parties in the US behave as if it is a banana republic."
IMF this week: "US interest payments as a % of revenues are in line w/those of low-income countries."
