The theater of Senate confirmation hearings is one of the most absurd illusions of “democracy” we’re forced to endure. They parade these hearings as if they matter, as if the ruling class isn’t already making the decisions behind closed doors. The questions, the posturing, the grandstanding, it’s all for show.
When the elite want someone in power, they get them there. Period. The hearings are just a ritual to make the public believe they have a say, when in reality, the machine runs on its own, undisturbed by votes, debates, or public scrutiny. The senators questioning nominees aren’t holding power to account—they’re just playing their part in the charade, polishing their public image while the real decisions have already been made elsewhere.
Governments bank on people’s naivety, hoping they stay mesmerized by the spectacle instead of questioning the system itself. The sooner people wake up to this, the harder it becomes for the ruling class to maintain their grip.
