A vulnerability affecting Lightning Network (LN) channels was disclosed: Old versions of Eclair, LDK, and LND (default settings) let channel openers steal up to 98% of funds. Core Lightning is also at risk if the dangerous --ignore-fee-limits option is enabled.
How? The attacker exploits fee imbalances in older channel states and even uses miner assistance to pull this off. Theoretical losses? $3M per Bitcoin block if exploited at scale.
The worst-case flaw is fixed, and mitigations are in place. But full protection awaits future upgrades to Bitcoin's fee relay mechanisms and LN channel designs. Stay updated, update your software, and be vigilant. 🛡️
