If you wanna try the Lebanese ways:
1 of 2 ways to enjoy your delicious Lebanese-style beef tongue👇🏽
One of the most popular Lebanese ways to cook beef tongue is by braising it with spices and vegetables. Here's a recipe that you can try:
Ingredients:
1 beef tongue (about 3 lbs)
2 onions, chopped
4 garlic cloves, minced
2 carrots, chopped
2 celery stalks, chopped
2 bay leaves
1 cinnamon stick
1 tsp allspice
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp salt
3 cups beef broth
1/2 cup red wine
2 tbsp tomato paste
2 tbsp olive oil
Instructions:
Rinse the beef tongue under cold water and pat it dry with paper towels. Cut off any excess fat and trim the edges.
In a large Dutch oven or pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions, garlic, carrots, and celery, and sauté for about 5 minutes until they are slightly softened.
Add the bay leaves, cinnamon stick, allspice, black pepper, and salt to the pot, and stir well.
Place the beef tongue on top of the vegetables, and pour the beef broth and red wine over it. Add the tomato paste and stir until it is well combined.
Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a lid. Let the beef tongue simmer for about 3 hours, or until it is tender and fully cooked.
Once the beef tongue is cooked, remove it from the pot and let it cool for a few minutes. Peel off the outer layer of skin and discard it.
Slice the beef tongue into thin pieces, and serve it with the braising liquid and vegetables.
You can also serve it with rice, couscous, or any other side dish of your choice.
👉🏼2nd way another common way to prepare beef tongue in Lebanese cuisine. Here's the recipe:
Ingredients:
1 beef tongue (about 3 lbs)
4 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tsp salt
Instructions:
Rinse the beef tongue under cold water and place it in a large pot. Add enough water to cover the tongue.
Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let the tongue simmer for about 2-3 hours, or until it is tender and fully cooked.
Once the beef tongue is cooked, remove it from the pot and let it cool for a few minutes. Peel off the outer layer of skin and discard it.
Slice the beef tongue into thin pieces and arrange them on a serving platter.
In a small bowl, mix together the minced garlic, olive oil, and salt. Drizzle the mixture over the beef tongue.
Serve the beef tongue at room temperature as a main dish or appetizer.
This dish is often served with Arabic pita bread or Lebanese flatbread, as well as pickled vegetables or a side salad.
I personally am used to the second way with garlic creme, olive oil and a bit of lemon juice
Enjoy!
