Driving through #Cairo today, I passed by Zamalek with a driver who couldn’t hide his frustration. What used to be a military club under the bridge has been turned into a strip of shops and restaurants.
His words stuck with me: “This isn’t planning, it’s profiteering.”
When governments treat urban spaces as assets to be squeezed for short-term revenue, the results are predictable: chaotic growth, misallocated resources, and a diminished quality of life. True progress comes from free markets and private initiative, not top-down schemes disguised as development.
It felt strangely nostalgic. #Lebanon, #Egypt, it’s the same story. Corrupt planning, empty promises, and cities paying the price.
