A year ago, I joined Nostr. Like many Bitcoiners, I felt the FOMO joined and posted a fraction of my Twitter content here, irregularly. No consistency. No genuine interest. Low engagement—but zaps? They kept coming. Fast forward, Nostr became much more than I imagined. Here’s how and why:

Before I dive deeper, a quick rewind: In 2020, I deleted all social apps from my phone—except for Twitter, because work demanded it. Bitcoin-Twitter was chaotic and dramatic, keeping me tethered. Yet, having only one app on my phone? This was a major mindfulness milestone.

Now, back to #Nostr.

Early Nostr days had this #zappathon trend—same time every day, users gathered to zap and engage as a #plebchain. For a longtime social media user since mIRC, feeling genuine support online was wild. Then, my Bitcoin work pulled me deeper into the rabbit hole. PoW > social media. Always.

On Twitter, I focused on #Bitcoin for work and #Lebanon’s economic collapse—deeply personal as a Lebanese Bitcoiner. But in October, I got furious about Israel’s war in general and on Lebanon in specific: called out the U.S. taxpayer-funded war machine, tied fiat to atrocities made to my country. Within days I got shadow-banned. Then suspended. No surprise.

Reflecting on my X suspension, I felt relieved I’d never verified my account. Not about money—about control, about my personal data. Being in Bitcoin prepares you mentally for these moments. But when it happened, I had a flash-forward to a dystopian future—social media as a massive virtual concentration camp, forcing compliance with the camp’s rules. Imagine this under a #CBDC regime: one button suspends your X and freezes your bank account. This isn’t freedom; it’s fiat tyranny. And the world is heading there.

This pushed me deeper into Nostr.

So, I committed. Daily posts—short form, long form, memes, GMs, GNs—total freedom. Unlike X, where I meticulously drafted tweets, curated media posts, and scheduled threads, here I had no system—I was just experimenting, letting thoughts flow. I noticed some of of the content on Nostr felt often recycled from Twitter without much depth or personal touch. But it’s the reality of early adoption I guess. I believe this will change—gradually then suddenly like for #Bitcoin. As the world spirals further into censorship and control, more suspensions will push people here. More will seek real freedom. Every atrocity and clampdown will serve as the best marketing for the purple ostrich. Within weeks, I got the kind of genuine social network here that took me years to create on X—and it’s still beautifully growing. No censorship. No need to self-censor. Just real, unfiltered connection.

Now? Multiple clients on my phone, learning how to run relays, and experimenting. I hope I could settle one day for two or one app on my phone that can do most of things that other apps do.

Nostr isn’t just another social network—it’s freedom to write without limits. When I post here, it feels like journaling. I already journal using Notion, which is great—but centralized. My future grandkids may never see it. Here, my words can outlast me.

To everyone here sharing technical knowledge, zapping, engaging in DMs, and being part of this journey—thank you. Your support and connections have made it real. Embracing Toxic Education:
My journey to #Nostr

Before I delve into my journey, let me start by admitting that I was once a shitcoiner. It wasn't until I was converted into a Bitcoin maxi rationalist using toxicity when necessary that I found a new path.

To give you some background, I am a human who has endured the turbulent state of Lebanon. This experience has profoundly disgusted me from the fiat mentality. My search for an alternative way of thinking led me to Bitcoin, the only sound money, thanks to the influence of toxic maxis.

Now, let me clarify what I mean by "toxic maxis." These are individuals who passionately advocate for Bitcoin as the only sound money with an aggressive, sometimes off-putting, demeanor. They may come across as abrasive or confrontational, but they often possess a wealth of knowledge and experience. While some people don't need toxicity to learn, many do, just like I needed it to stop being a shitcoiner and understand why Bitcoin only.

You might be wondering why I am writing this and what happened today. I wrote a post about suggesting a UX proposal to increase protection for content creators, without taking into account what Nostr was all about. Just check that post and the comments to understand the story. Yet, this post is about the benefits of toxicity in education.

Toxic maxis, with their deep understanding of Bitcoin, have a unique way of teaching. By not allowing their abrasiveness to deter me, I've been able to learn a great deal from them. In fact, their seemingly harsh demeanor actually pushed me to challenge my own assumptions and think more critically about the topics at hand.

I encourage everyone to remain open to different forms of education and perspectives, even if they seem unconventional or challenging at first. By doing so, you might find that you gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the subject matter. It's crucial to stress that you should not take any feedback personally. Put your emotions aside and digest the constructive commentary from it. Remember, the key is to embrace toxic education without taking it personally.

Currently, the copy text functionality is available to all users, allowing anyone to easily copy and potentially plagiarize content with just a couple of clicks. This accessibility may inadvertently encourage unauthorized use and distribution of copyrighted material.

The proposal is that the copy text functionality be limited exclusively to the original post author, thereby reinforcing the protection of their intellectual property.

By implementing this change, we can achieve the following benefits:

• Discourage plagiarism: Limiting the copy text function to the original author can deter unauthorized reproduction of their content.
• Encourage original content: When users are unable to easily copy and paste content, they may be more inclined to create their own original work.
• Boost content creator confidence: Providing additional security measures can assure content creators that their work is better protected, encouraging them to share more of their ideas and creations on the platform.
• Preserve the platform's reputation: Implementing safeguards against plagiarism can help maintain the credibility and integrity of the Nostr apps, fostering a community that values original content and respects intellectual property rights.

This UX oriented update would not only benefit content creators but also enhance the overall user experience for everyone on the platform. As a result, the Nostr apps would become a more secure and trustworthy environment for sharing and discovering new ideas.

I am confident that this will contribute to Nostr’s continued success and growth.

Have you ever wondered how central banks and fiat systems operate? Interestingly enough, a recent visit to a school carnival provided an insightful glimpse into these complex worlds. By observing the inner workings of this small-scale event, we can draw parallels with Austrian economics and better understand the advantages of #Bitcoin.

At the carnival, coupons were used as the medium of exchange for food and games. When we ran out of coupons, I found myself in a fascinating conversation with the central bank governor (the executive secretary) about the potential vulnerabilities in the event's “monetary system”. The conversation touched upon the risks of counterfeiting, the absence of a proper auditing system, and the potential consequences of unchecked coupon printing.

She appeared astonished and seemed deeply grateful for the input, showing genuine concern about the implications.

This seemingly innocent school carnival serves as a microcosm of fiat economics, where central authorities control the creation, distribution, and valuation of currency.

Throughout history, there have been numerous occasions when banks and financial institutions have provided a false sense of security, only for the situation to deteriorate rapidly. One of the most striking examples comes from Lebanon, a country with a population of 4 million that has been devastated by the largest Ponzi scheme in the history of central banking and economics.

Unfortunately, the West and many "developed" nations seem to be oblivious to the signs of a dysfunctional financial system they are living in. The belief that the dollar or euro is a safe haven might be misplaced, considering the numerous instances of false assurances from banks and financial institutions in the past.

These examples remind us that the conventional financial system can be deceptive and unreliable. Relying on the assurances of banks and central banks might not always be in our best interest. Instead, we should consider alternatives like Bitcoin, a decentralized and transparent form of currency that has the potential to revolutionize the way we handle money.

In an increasingly unpredictable financial landscape, it is crucial to stay vigilant and question the stability of traditional currencies. Learning from history, we can adopt a proactive approach and explore alternative financial solutions that offer greater autonomy and control over our financial destiny.

The 2023 banking crisis has now officially surpassed the 2008 financial collapse in scale (noting we’re still in the first half of the year), with major regional lenders like PacWest and First Republic collapsing in quick succession. Despite assurances from Fed Chairman Jerome Powell that the U.S. banking system is sound and resilient, it appears that the situation is far from under control.

Drawing from Austrian economics and 2008 facts, it is important to note that the early collapses in a financial crisis are often just the beginning. In 2008, the failure of 25 U.S. banks was followed by a staggering 440 bank collapses over the next four years, a rate of 110 per year compared to just two per year prior to the crisis. With the current crisis unfolding at an alarming pace, it seems that the worst is yet to come.

One key factor in this crisis is that the effects of interest rate hikes usually take 12 to 18 months to significantly impact the economy. As we are only six months into the rate hikes, it appears that the true storm is yet to hit, with the current situation representing only the first breezes of an oncoming hurricane.

Moreover, European banks are also facing serious trouble, as they are dealing with the same problems as their U.S. counterparts due to the European Central Bank following a similar playbook. Ifact, European banks are even more vulnerable, as they are almost twice as large relative to their economies compared to the U.S. banks. During the 2008 crisis, the financial collapse in the United States led to a domino effect that ultimately resulted in a sovereign crisis in Europe, affecting countries like Greece, which have never fully recovered.

Current EU financial stresses are even higher than in 2008, partly due to their environmental and de-industrialization policies. As such, Europe could once again find itself on the brink of disaster as a result of the current U.S. financial crisis. Ernest Hemingway once wrote in his book “The Sun Also Rises” that there are two ways to go bankrupt: gradually and then suddenly. It seems that the pace of "suddenly" is accelerating in the current crisis, with potentially dire consequences for the global economy.

The dominos won’t stop falling.

As I delve deeper into Austrian economics, I can't help but feel hurt and angry at the mainstream economic teachings that have fed us lies for decades. It's time we rebel against the system and seek the truth.

Austrian #economics is a beacon of wisdom in a sea of economic fallacies. It teaches us that markets are not static and that government intervention only distorts the economy. It's time to embrace these truths and reject the statist agenda.

The #Austrian School challenges the faulty assumption that government can efficiently allocate resources. It's time to accept that individuals, not bureaucrats, are best equipped to allocate resources in a free market economy.
